Dr. Barnes was born in Wilmington, Delaware and spent her childhood in Savannah, Georgia.  She left the Southeast to attend the University of Chicago for her undergraduate degree.  After a gap-year where she worked nights at a chemical plant and married her high school sweetheart, Charles Byrd (our Practice Manager), Dr. Barnes moved to Massachusetts to
attend dental school.  She was honored by the faculty with induction into the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Post-graduation, Dr. Barnes took her oath of office as a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corps.  She was selected for an AEGD residency at Fort Carson, Colorado where she spent an additional year dedicated in study under the mentorship of dental specialists.
Dr. Barnes remained in Colorado Springs, serving in the Fort Carson DENTAC as a dentist and Soldier.  She practiced at the state-of-the-art Larson Dental Clinic and, in 2015, Dr. Barnes volunteered for deployment to Kuwait and Qatar.  She is honored to have begun her career caring for the remarkable men and women who wear the Uniform, proud of the high standard of care achieved by the Army Dental Corps, and grateful for the camaraderie and guidance she experienced throughout her time in the Army.

In 2018, Dr. Barnes returned to Massachusetts to found Berkshire Dental Arts and assume the dental practice of Dr. Neil Pyser.  Dr. Barnes's clinical passions are in prosthodontics and cosmetic dentistry.  For her, dentistry is the perfect mix of art, science, and purpose.  You will quickly recognize how her attention to detail, artistic skill, exacting standards and gentle hands set her apart.  Dr. Barnes is committed to remaining current with advances in the dental profession through continued learning.  Her approach to dentistry encompasses a comprehensive mindset that takes your oral and systemic health, function and aesthetic needs into consideration.

In her free time, she loves to spend time with Charles, their dog Colby and two birds Pico and Peri.  Her favorite pastimes are hiking, bird watching, and gardening.  She enjoys traveling and trying to capture interesting scenes as an amateur photographer.
